Petro Jonker, owner of Eagle Tours, provided this great reference and review on the Magnum 36 Day Passenger Vessel/Dive Boat that he recently took delivery of from Two Oceans Marine Manufacturing
Our reason for ordering the Magnum 36 Day Passenger Vessel:
We required a vessel which could carry a maximum of 28 passengers, offering comfortable and fast transfer from our dock to neighbouring islands, as well as visits to local nature reserve areas for snorkel and beach time. The vessel needed to have comfortable seating, a large swim platform and reliable diesel motors to comply with safety regulations. The bridge clearance needed to be maximum 2.2 meters from the waterline as the vessel needs to pass under two bridges on some tours.
After some research, we established that the Magnum 36 hull offered an extremely seaworthy hull able to operate smoothly and handle choppy seas without dropping off with hard landings.
The layout was agreed with bench type seating longitudinal as we have found this to offer a friendly setting for passengers in a holiday environment. We had the vessel equipped with two electric flush toilets hand basins and change area.
The helm position was in the centre of the vessel so that the helms could communicate easily with passengers. A bar service area was built immediately behind the helm for ease of access once at anchor. A large swim platform and large swim ladder on the same level as lower deck provides trip proof movement for the guests. The roof was built with a hand operated drop down for the bridges.
The Magnum 36 in service
The vessel has met our expectations with a top speed of 28 knots driven by two Yanmar inboard diesel motors with a reverse drive. Fuel consumption has been lower than expected as our tour operates one third of the time at low speeds. Fully loaded, the vessel cruises easily at 22 knots and tops at 26 knots.
The vessel has proved to have a very comfortable ride and is getting good feedback from clients who previous chartered single hull vessels with outboards.
The vessel is meeting expectations and proving to be economical in operation and maintenance.
